Hengelo Council welcomes new colleagues with an interactive MoveCard

A good first impression starts with a strong onboarding process. New employees have a lot of information to take in during their first few days at work – from the company culture and working methods to key processes and internal policies. But how do you ensure that all this information is not just read, but actually sticks?

We were commissioned by Hengelo Council to produce a MoveCard produce. An interactive mailing that introduces new colleagues to an important aspect of their work – participation – in an original and accessible way.

A surprising welcome for new staff

Starting a new job is about more than just practical information. New colleagues also need to familiarise themselves with the organisation’s vision, values and way of working. The MoveCard from Hengelo Council was introduced precisely for that purpose. The theme Participation takes centre stage, with the message on the front: Let’s do it together – Get involved in Hengelo. Instead of a comprehensive manual or a traditional information booklet, staff are given a compact and interactive communication tool that encourages them to explore the content for themselves.

A step-by-step introduction to participation

What makes this original map is the clever sliding mechanism. Pulling on the element on the right-hand side automatically turns a new page. Each movement reveals the next part of the story. In this way, new staff are introduced, step by step, to the participation process and the four key elements of the participatory approach. It also explains the different forms of involvement, such as being informed, contributing ideas, taking part and having a say. Presenting the information in this way provides a clear introduction without the recipient having to process a large amount of text all at once.

What’s more, the interactive nature of the content makes getting to know it a lot more fun!

Turn onboarding into an experience

This case study clearly illustrates how the MoveCard can be used as part of an onboarding programme for new employees. Not just to pass on information, but specifically to actively engage employees with the organisation right from the start. Examples include an introduction to the corporate culture, core values and work processes, or a personalised welcome programme.
